Robert Champion who is now more commonly known as Bob Champion was born in 1948. Bob Champion's father was a hunstman and he was surrounded by riders and hunters from an early age. Many days were spent riding and hunting with his family. At 15 years old he rode his first point to point winner before going into National Hunt Racing at Weyhill. His early success in the National Hunt Racing circuit gained him a lot of respect.

Despite a stint in America, his career really took off when he returned to England. His career was really taking off with 8 appearances at Aintree racecourse. His biggest ambition was to win the Grand National and he was at the peak of his career.
Unfortunately, his life then took an unexpected turn which devastated the nation. In 1979 Bob Champion was diagnosed with testicular cancer and given only 8 months to live. Champion was determined not to let this beat him and underwent aggressive chemotherapy.

He immediately returned to training with a Grand National win in sight. However, the treatment had huge implications for his health. A large infection prevented him from being able to compete in 1980. The next year, however, he did return.

Whilst still undergoing treatment Champion was set to race in the 1981 Grand National. He rode Aldanti, who was recovering from three leg injuries. The whole nation was behind the pair and a 2nd place finish was predicted at 10/1.

Defying all the odds the two sped to victory at Aintree Racecourse. This Grand National win goes down as one of the greatest of all time. It captured the nations hearts and the story of determination and courage has lived on for many years.

Bob Champion continued to race until 1983 and had accomplished 500 wins at different racing events. He then went onto train horses and set up the Bob Champion Cancer Trust, which has now raised millions for cancer.

They both will forever be champions within sport. This amazing and touching story is why The Bob Champion Suite at Aintree has it's name. All the magic and wonder of the Grand National lives on at Aintree through this inspiring story.
You can experience a little of the Bob Champion magic on Grand National Day in the Bob Champion suite. The hospitality on offer is of great value offering a memorable experience for all. You can even get all the betting tips from the main man himself on the day, as Bob Champion will be the guest tipster.

Make Grand National 2019 an unforgettable day for you and your valued clients with exclusive hospitality packages and VIP tickets.
