Grand National Ladies Day will once again be highly anticipated in 2019. Being dubbed “Fabulous Friday” there’s plenty to look forward to on this stylish day. Ladies Day is all about the glitz, glamour and enviable style. As one of Liverpool’s most highlighted events in the social calendar, everyone puts on their best outfits in hopes of winning “best dressed”
But the focus isn’t all on the fashion of course. There’s plenty of racing action to sink your teeth into. The four grade one races will provide you with all the nail-biting moments Aintree has to offer.
With so much to look forward to on the second day of the Grand National meeting we have put together a handy guide of all that you need to know.
If you hadn’t already guessed by now style is at the forefront of Aintree Ladies Day. The best dressed will win the prestigious “Style Award” which is often judged by celebrity fashion favourites. Robyn May Quinn was the style award winner in 2018. Her floral dress, wicker bag and custom tiara stunned judges at Aintree racecourse. Prizes last year included a Ranger Rover Evoke so it is well worth getting involved in. Besides who doesn’t like getting glammed up?
Popular style choices at the event include neutral shades and floral patterns. The accessory that stands out the most on race day is of course the huge fascinators. From the big to bright many like to make a statement with custom headwear.
Unlike other racing events there is no official dress code for Aintree. However sportswear and fancy dress is not permitted. Smart wear is preferred and favoured by many.
Who will be the best dressed in your group?
Day two of the Grand National meeting is set to be a day full of excitement and exhilarating races. With seven races four being grade one there’s plenty for the racing enthusiasts amongst you to enjoy.
The Crabbie’s Top Novices Hurdle is the first of the races which sees horses over the age of four jump over a total of 9 fences in hopes of being victorious.
Mildmay Novices’ Chase is the second of the four races. First started in 1981 this 3 mile race will certainly provide plenty of exciting racing action for all to enjoy.
The JLT Melling Steeple Chase is the third race of the day. This is an exciting race for both trainer and jockey as out of the four races this holds the largest cash prize.
The final race of the day is Sefton Novices Hurdle Race. Retaining its grade one title since 1991 this 3 mile race proposes a difficult challenge for any novice runner.
